01:33 authoritarian governments
01:35 using hacking software sold by is only
01:38 surveillance company nso group according
01:41 to an investigation into a massive
01:43 data link it says that the investigation
01:46 by the guardian and 16 other media
01:48 organizations
01:49 suggest widespread and continuing abuse
01:53 of nso’s hacking spyware
01:56 pegasus which the company insists is
01:59 only intended for use against
02:01 criminals and terrorists it says that
02:04 pegasus
02:05 is a malware that infects iphones and
02:07 android devices
02:09 to enable operators of the tool to
02:11 extract
02:12 messages photos and emails record calls
02:16 and secretly activate microphones
02:20 this is something that has been around
02:22 for a long time
02:23 uh but again with this kind of
02:25 technology but this
02:26 malware was not only used and uh of
02:29 course we knew all about it
02:31 it was actually farmed out to other
02:33 countries other horrible countries
02:37 it says the leak contains a list of more
02:38 than 50 000
02:40 phone numbers that it is believed have
02:43 been
02:43 identified as those of the people of
02:45 interest by clients of nso since 2016.
02:49 forbidden stories a parish based uh
02:52 non-profit organization and amnesty
02:54 international initially had
02:56 access to the leaked list and shared
02:58 access with media partners as part of
03:00 the pegasus project
03:02 a reporting uh consortium it says the
03:05 presence of a phone number in the data
03:07 does not reveal whether a device was
03:09 infected with pegasus
03:10 or subject to an attempted hack however
03:13 the consortium believes that the data is
03:15 indicative
03:16 of potential targets of the nso’s
03:18 government clients
03:20 identified in advance of possible
03:22 surveillance attempts
03:24 so this massive 50 000 person list
03:27 uh was basically their their you know
03:30 cyber hit list
03:31 right of of the people they wanted to
03:33 listen to blackmail get all their
03:35 information
03:35 or find out if they’re criminals right

04:34 spyware scandal as the story of the year

04:40 17 media outlets from the united states
04:42 to the united kingdom france germany and
04:44 other countries
04:45 nso groups software pegasus was used to
04:48 hack smartphones
04:49 which belonged to humans right activists
04:52 lawyers journalists
04:53 business executives and even two women
04:56 who were close to journalist
04:58 jamal khashoggi which again we
05:01 all know who was uh taken out in saudi
05:03 consulate in instable
05:05 in october 2018. again he was
05:09 literally separated from his body

09:05 only consumer cell phones where the
09:07 subscriber has opted in to receive
09:09 test test messages this will be the
09:11 second nationwide wea test
09:14 but the first nationwide wea test on a
09:17 consumer opt-in basis
09:20 the test message will display in either
09:22 english or in spanish depending on the
09:24 language settings of the wireless
09:25 handset
09:26 the emergency alert system portion of
09:28 the test will be sent to radios and
09:30 televisions
09:31 and this will be the sixth nationwide

09:39 so first of all uh how do you opt into
