Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has threatened the US with hypersonic cruise missiles and compared American policies to those of the Nazis. Medvedev made the threat in a Telegram post in response to a US embassy appeal to Russian citizens for peace. He specifically mentioned the Zircon missile, which has a range of 1,000km and a hypersonic speed of Mach 9, and is capable of carrying any payload. It is capable of overcoming any missile defense system. Medvedev’s threat comes in response to a video and statement published by the US embassy in Moscow that expressed solidarity with Russians who strive for peace. Medvedev called the appeal “cynical”, and accused the US of spending billions on the war in Ukraine and supplying Kyiv with weapons.
A series of powerful storms is battering California, causing widespread power outages, evacuations, and travel disruptions. The storms, which are being fueled by an “atmospheric river” of moisture, have brought heavy rain and strong winds to the state, leading to flash flood and mudslide warnings. Several highways and roads have been closed due to the inclement weather, and more than 200,000 residents have lost power. Officials are warning residents to prepare for additional evacuations as the storms are expected to continue through the week. The National Weather Service has issued flood and high wind warnings for much of the state.

Armed members of the Sinaloa cartel stormed Culiacan International Airport in western Mexico on Thursday, opening fire on army planes in retaliation for the arrest of Ovidio Guzman, the son of infamous drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. The cartel also set up roadblocks on highways in the region in an attempt to recapture Ovidio. Footage of the attack shows cartel members firing inside a commercial plane as it taxis on the runway and a convoy of cartel fighters confronting the Mexican army. The airport has been closed for the day, and there have been delays and cancellations at Mexico City Airport due to the violence. Several hospitals and health centers in the region have also been stormed by cartel members, with paramedics and doctors reportedly being kidnapped.
The US Air Force has deployed its latest E-11A aircraft, equipped with Northrop Grumman’s Battlefield Airborne Communication Node, to Saudi Arabia’s Prince Sultan Air Base. The E-11A is the first of six planes the Air Force is due to receive by the end of 2026, and is a modified Bombardier Global 6500 business jet. The E-11A’s BACN package allows it to function like a low-Earth satellite, enabling communication between different airborne platforms and forces on the ground and serving as a valuable communications relay node. The aircraft is expected to be used in a variety of roles, including serving as a command and control centre in the event of a war with China or Russia.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has said that he would consider suspending a 2018 inter-Korean military pact if North Korea violates its airspace again. The 2018 deal, which was made during a summit between the two nations’ leaders, calls for a no-fly zone around the border, ceasing all hostile acts, and removing landmines and guard posts within the Demilitarised Zone. The South Korean president has criticised the military’s handling of a recent drone incident, in which North Korean drones crossed into the South, and has urged the military to stand ready to retaliate. Inter-Korean relations have been strained since Yoon took office in May, pledging a tougher line against North Korea.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s daughter has been publicly shown at three events in recent months, leading to speculation that she may be being groomed as his successor. South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) told lawmakers that Kim’s daughter’s public appearance showed that he is planning another round of hereditary power transfer, though the NIS said that it does not necessarily mean that the child herself will succeed Kim. Kim’s daughter is believed to be around 9 or 10 years old and is thought to be the child seen by retired NBA star Dennis Rodman during a trip to Pyongyang in 2013. Kim is the third generation of his family to rule North Korea.
The US military has sent a warship through the Taiwan Strait, in a move that is likely to increase tensions with China. The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, the USS Chung-Hoon, sailed through the strait as part of what the US military calls a routine activity. However, China claims Taiwan as its own territory and has previously expressed its anger at such moves by the US. The Taiwan Strait has long been a source of military tension, with China never ruling out the use of force to bring Taiwan under its control. Taiwan, which is democratic and self-governed, has vowed to defend itself against any attack.
The Commander of Kyiv’s defense forces has said that Ukraine has created a multi-level defense system in the north of the country that will prevent Russia from advancing beyond the border with Belarus. Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavliuk stated that the border is “full of rubble and minefields” and that artillery fire, sniper groups, and mobile fire groups are ready to target any attempted invasion. This comes after the Ministry of Defense of Belarus announced that Russian personnel, weapons, military, and special equipment would continue to arrive in Belarus.

The Head of Wagner Private Military Company, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has released the first group of criminals who were recruited to fight in the war against Ukraine and had their convictions cleared. Russian propagandists released a video of Prigozhin speaking to these individuals, stating that society should treat them with respect. Prigozhin claims that many of these individuals were about to be released from prison and decided to join the war in an effort to defend their homeland. He also offered advice to the criminals, telling them not to drink excessively, use drugs, or commit sexual assault.
Belarus has become dependent on Russia for financial support, has Russian military presence throughout the country, and its territory is used to launch missiles against Ukraine. Russian also trains Belarusian troops, the country’s opposition is in prison or exile, and the official language, Belarusian, is being suppressed in favor of Russian. The country is also part of the Union State with Russia, which aims to integrate Belarus into Russia. The loss of sovereignty and increased Russification of the country is a response to the Belarusification of society during nationwide protests in 2020. Using the Belarusian language has become associated with opposition to the government and can lead to fines or imprisonment. The country is undergoing a process of ceding its sovereignty to Russia.

The Munich Security Conference is scheduled to take place in February, and there are also events in New York on February 23-24. Ukraine is reportedly preparing for any developments and the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief meets 2-3 times a week. The White House has said that it cannot confirm that a US-supplied HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) was destroyed by Russia in Ukraine. Russian Defense Ministry had claimed that missile and air strikes launched in eastern Ukraine had destroyed two HIMARS systems. The US has previously supplied Ukraine with HIMARS, which are mounted on trucks and can launch satellite-guided rockets at a distance of 50 miles, although their normal range is nearly 200 miles. The Wall Street Journal has previously reported that the Biden administration had secretly modified the systems provided to Ukraine to limit their range.
The US has announced plans to provide Ukraine with M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicles, while Germany will donate Marder Infantry Fighting Vehicles, to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. The US aid package, which is expected to include 50 Bradleys, will also include training for Ukrainian soldiers on how to use the vehicles. Germany will also supply a Patriot air defense battery to Ukraine. These developments highlight the efforts of Ukraine’s allies to enhance the country’s armored capabilities. The French government has also announced plans to send AMX-10 RC armored combat vehicles to Ukraine.
A study from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst has suggested that 6G wireless technology could use humans as a power source, with Visible Light Communication (VLC) possibly being used. VLC is a wireless version of fibre optics, which transmits information on flashes of light. The study found that scientists could harvest waste energy from VLC by using the human body as an antenna. The researchers created a wearable device, the “Bracelet+”, which collected up to 10 times more energy than a bare copper wire coil when attached to a person. The bracelet costs less than 50 cents to produce, and can reach up to micro-watts of power, enough to support on-body health monitoring sensors.
VPN stands for “virtual private network” — a service that protects your internet connection and privacy online. It creates an encrypted tunnel for your data, protects your online identity by hiding your IP address, and allows you to use public Wi-Fi hotspots safely. No one likes to be watched or tracked — even if they have nothing to hide. That’s why it’s important you step up your privacy game. When you’re browsing through a VPN, your traffic is encrypted so no one can see what you do online.
There is a new COVID variant called XBB.1.5 that has been detected in 25 countries and is the most transmissible variant yet. It is a sub-variant of Omicron and is spreading rapidly in the UK, US, and Europe, particularly in the northeast of the US. The World Health Organization (WHO) is concerned about the variant’s growth advantage and its ability to easily adhere to cells and replicate due to mutations within the virus. There is currently no evidence to suggest that the variant causes more severe illness, but it may change as it continues to circulate. The WHO also expressed concern about the accuracy of COVID-19 data in China, which may be underreporting hospitalizations and deaths from the disease. The Chinese government has been criticized for narrowing its definition of COVID-related deaths to only those involving COVID-caused pneumonia or respiratory failure.
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has published an intercepted phone call between a Russian occupier and his wife, in which the occupier expresses hateful and violent views towards Ukrainians. The White House has rejected a call for a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling it a “cynical ploy” for Russian forces to regroup and potentially attack with “even more vengeance, even more brutality, even more lethality.” Putin had ordered a 36-hour ceasefire starting on Friday to mark Orthodox Christmas, but Ukraine rejected the proposal and called it a trap for Russian forces to regroup. The State Department also rejected the ceasefire, calling it an opportunity for Russian forces to “rest, to refit, to regroup, and ultimately to re-attack.” The majority of the populations in Russia and Ukraine are Orthodox Christians and traditionally celebrate Christmas on January 7th.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Joe Biden have both raised concerns about the risk of nuclear war. The two leaders have different views on the issue, with Putin stating that Russia’s nuclear arsenal is mainly used as a deterrent and Biden expressing concern about the potential for nuclear “Armageddon.” Investor Warren Buffett has also commented on the threat of nuclear war, calling it “the ultimate problem of mankind.” He has expressed concern about the potential for nuclear weapons to cause harm on a large scale since 1945 and has said that it is the only real “cloud on the horizon.”
A North Korean drone briefly entered a no-fly zone surrounding South Korea’s presidential office when it intruded into the South’s airspace on December 26, according to the South’s military. The drone was among five that crossed into the South on the same day, prompting South Korea’s military to scramble fighter jets and helicopters. The military was criticised for failing to bring down the drones, which flew over the South for hours. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff had previously denied that one of the drones intruded into a no-fly zone near President Yoon Suk-yeol’s office in Seoul, but later confirmed it had violated the northern end of the area.
Russian President Vladimir Putin told Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday that Russia is open to dialogue with Ukraine, but that Kyiv must accept the loss of territories claimed by Russia. Putin also reportedly accused the West of playing a “destructive role” in the conflict by providing weapons, information and guidance to Ukraine. The two presidents also discussed energy issues including the creation of a gas hub in Turkey and the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant. Erdogan and Putin have previously spoken about the conflict in Ukraine and Turkey has acted as a mediator with the United Nations to facilitate grain exports from Ukrainian ports.
Kyiv’s air defenses have reportedly been able to shoot down more than 80 aerial vehicles, including Iranian drones, this week. The conflict in Ukraine has caused a drain on munitions warehouses across NATO, leading to discussions in the US about upgrading Cold War-era munitions and pooling resources to support Kyiv. The US is also considering ways to target Iranian drone production through sanctions and export controls, and is seeking to restrict Iran’s access to technologies used in drones.
Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Yasutoshi Nishimura, has called for a “new world order” to counter the rise of authoritarian regimes, which he said have gained significant economic and military power. Speaking at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, Nishimura said that the United States and other like-minded democracies must rebuild a world order based on “fundamental values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.” He also warned that democracies need to protect their industrial power and guard against the loss of technologies that could be used for military purposes. Nishimura’s comments come amid concerns that China and Russia will use their control over energy resources and supply chains to oppose the goals of the US, Japan, Europe, and others.
It seems that there is a new special counsel appointed to investigate former US President Donald Trump. Jack Smith is a former prosecutor with experience in cases involving war crimes, organized crime, and corrupt police officers. He has been appointed to investigate two cases involving Trump, one involving the handling of classified documents at his Florida resort after he left office in January 2021, and the other involving efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. Smith is known for being tenacious in his pursuit of the truth and is not afraid to pursue cases against the guilty or drop charges against the innocent. He has a reputation for being open-minded and has previously worked as a prosecutor in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and the US Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, and as chief prosecutor for the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
Republicans have failed to choose a speaker for the third day in a row, as party leader Kevin McCarthy has been unable to secure the necessary votes in a series of ballots. McCarthy has lost nine, ten, and eleven rounds of voting, surpassing the number that took place 100 years ago. This has led to a stalemate in the House of Representatives, which has been unable to open for the new session of Congress. The House is divided over the future of the Republican Party, with McCarthy’s supporters and opponents unable to reach a compromise. There are also calls for reforms to the way the House is run, with some seeking to reduce the power of the speaker’s office and increase the influence of rank-and-file lawmakers.
It appears that there is a stalemate in the process of electing a speaker for the US House of Representatives. The Republican party currently holds the majority in the House, but a group of conservative Republican lawmakers, known as the Freedom Caucus, have opposed the candidacy of Rep. Kevin McCarthy for speaker. As a result, the House has been unable to officially open for the new session of Congress and begin conducting official business. There are currently three potential ways that this situation could be resolved. The first is if McCarthy is able to strike a deal with the holdout Republicans and win the speakership. The second is if McCarthy drops his bid and another GOP lawmaker is elected as speaker. The third option is if the parties agree on a “unity candidate,” a centrist Republican who could garner support from both parties.
It appears that Sean Hannity, a Fox News host, had a tense interview with Representative Lauren Boebert of Colorado on January 5, 2023. The two were discussing Boebert’s lack of support for Representative Kevin McCarthy of California in his bid to become House speaker. During the interview, Boebert suggested she could nominate former President Donald Trump for the position, to which Hannity responded by asking if the conversation was a “game show.” The two went back and forth and Hannity tried to regain control of the interview multiple times. It is unclear what the outcome of the interview was.
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is awake and showing signs of improvement after suffering a cardiac arrest during Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hamlin collapsed on the field after taking a hit to the chest and received CPR from medics. The NFL is investigating the cause of the cardiac arrest, and Dr. Allen Sills, the league’s senior medical officer, said that one possibility is commotio cordis, which is caused by significant chest trauma disrupting the electrical charge of the heart. Hamlin remains in critical condition but has been responsive and able to grip the hands of his loved ones.
This article is discussing the potential consequences of wealthy individuals using their resources to pursue technology that could potentially allow them to live forever. One concern is that such technology could exacerbate existing inequalities, as the longer someone is alive, the more their wealth and power would compound. There is also the possibility that those who have access to this technology would use it to maintain their wealth and power, rather than sharing it with others. Some organizations in the field of longevity research have stated that they are committed to ensuring that any breakthroughs are available to as many people as possible, but it is unclear how these promises will be kept. There are also concerns about the potential for a society where some people are immortal and others are not.
This article appears to be discussing an alleged altercation between Prince Harry and Prince William that is described in Prince Harry’s upcoming memoir. The article claims that Prince Harry wrote in the memoir that Prince William physically attacked him during an argument and that Prince William also made negative comments about Meghan Markle. The article also states that the incident occurred in 2019 and that the memoir, titled “Spare,” is set to be published in the near future. However, it is important to note that the details in this article have not been independently verified and should be treated with caution until the book is released and the claims can be properly examined.
Prince Harry alleges that his brother, Prince William, physically attacked him in an argument over Meghan Markle in his upcoming book, “Spare”. According to Harry, William called Meghan “rude” and “difficult” before the argument turned into a physical confrontation in which William grabbed Harry by the collar, ripped his necklace and knocked him to the floor. Harry claims that the incident left him with visible injuries on his back. Harry says he did not immediately tell Meghan about the confrontation, but later admitted it to her when she noticed “scrapes and bruises” on his back. The extract from Harry’s book has been published by the Guardian. It is unclear how they obtained an early copy.
Prince Harry claims in his new memoir “Spare” that King Charles made “sadistic” comments about the speculation that Prince Harry’s real father was Princess Diana’s former lover, Major James Hewitt. Harry writes that Charles would often tell a joke about the rumor, saying “Who knows if I’m really the Prince of Wales? Who knows if I’m even your real father?” Harry also claims that Charles never directly spoke to him about the rumor. The allegations are just a few of the bombshells in Harry’s book, in which he also addresses his relationship with his older brother William and stepmother Camilla Parker Bowles.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine on January 6-7, 2023, to allow citizens to celebrate Orthodox Christmas. This is the first time Russia has introduced a full ceasefire in Ukraine since the launch of the offensive in February 2022. The announcement came following a request for a ceasefire during the religious holiday from Russia’s Orthodox leader Patriarch Kirill. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also urged Putin to declare a “unilateral” ceasefire in Ukraine in a phone call on Thursday.
Disgraced influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been arrested in Romania on suspicion of being involved in an organized crime ring that sexually exploited at least six women. The brothers were arrested after their luxury mansion in Romania was raided by police last Thursday. According to reports, Tate was arrested on suspicion of rape in Britain in 2015, before appearing on Big Brother, after being accused of violently abusing two women while running a webcam business in the UK. It is now claimed that a third woman, named only as Ana B, helped run the operation and managed all the payments made by Tate’s companies.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has increased the reward for information about the suspect who allegedly planted pipe bombs near the headquarters of the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in Washington D.C. in 2021 from $100,000 to $500,000. The bombs were placed on the night of January 5, 2021, just hours before the breach of the US Capitol building on January 6. The suspect is believed to have placed the bombs in an alley behind RNC headquarters and near DNC headquarters, but they did not detonate. The FBI is urging the public to review the information on their website and provide any relevant information about potential suspects, including details about their access to pipe bomb components and their proximity to Washington D.C. in early January 2021.
A former funeral home owner in Colorado has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for defrauding the families of the deceased by selling body parts without permission. Megan Hess, 46, pleaded guilty to fraud in July and operated the Sunset Mesa funeral home and a body parts company, Donor Services, from the same building in Montrose, Colorado. Hess’ mother, Shirley Koch, also pleaded guilty to fraud and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Koch was responsible for dissecting the bodies, according to court records. The case was triggered by a Reuters investigation in 2016-2018 about the sale of body parts in the US, which is largely unregulated.
